Some Helix users have found that running Helix Server 4.5.5 under Mac OS 8.1 or less will result in Type 3 crashes. Upgrading to Mac OS 8.5 or greater will correct this problem.

This bug was fixed in Helix 4.5.5, but an unintended side effect is that in some cases, the Client now gives up searching for servers on networks where it formerly worked fine. A fix is now available for Helix Client and Client 68K.

To fix this problem, download the ResEdit template at:

Once you have ResEdit and the template, follow these instructions:

1. Double click the template file.
2. Go to the file menu and select Open.
3. Open the Helix Client application. A window with several icons will open.
4. Locate and double click the "HCNT" icon.
5. Open and double click the line labelled "ID '1'"
6. Change the field (labelled "# of servers to search for") from 0 to the correct number of Helix servers on your network. If unsure, enter '1'.
7. Close the windows.
8. Save the changes when asked.
