Abacus icon

The abacus icon is used to define calculations used for the data in a relation.

Abacus query

Used to limit the data retrieved from a relation.

AppleTalk

AppleTalk is a networking system that is available on all Apple Macintosh Computers and a variety of printer hardware.

Black Hole

Black holes receive information, either from a field, an abacus, the arrow of another tile, or by direct input.

Call Helix

An AppleScript scripting addition that enables you to manipulate data within a Helix database using the AppleScript scripting language.

Client

A Helix application that visits the server over a network.

Client/Server

In Helix, the term describing the methodology Helix users for sharing a collection among users in a workgrou. Allows for multiple people to access a single collection at the same time.

Cold Form

A form that is not updated while it is on the screen. The form can be refreshed with the refresh command, or by clicking the form indicator.

Collection

A file (e.g., database) or related group of such files, known as "Relations" in Helix, form a collection. A Helix document which contains all the data and structures created inside Helix.

Data Rectangle

Data rectangles display stored data, provide places for entering new data, or display the results of a calculation.

Database

Any collection of data organized for storage and access by computers.

Date data type

A type of data that can be formatted to include the date and time.

Design Mode

Formerly known as "Full Mode,": Design Mode is the part of Helix RADE where the application design is done.

Document data type

Document data type stores non-Helix documents within a Helix database.

Engine

Used to run single-user Helix applications. It is similar to RADE, but with the full mode removed.

Evalix

Evalix analyzes a special text file from your Helix application to report common construction problems and increase productivity.

Export

Command used to copy Helix data to an external file. (Formerly known as "Dump")

Field Icon

Can be dragged into a relation for creation of data fields.

Fixed Point data type

A field to store numbers with up to two decimal places.

Flag data type

Returns a yes/no response. Can be formatted to return a number (1/0), true/false, yes/no, or a customized true/false statement.

Form Query

The form query allows a developer to select a template that appears as a query form. The user can open each field on the query form to enter values and operators that create an expression against which values are evaluated. The data that meet the criteria are then displayed.
